Tonga – The Japanese Government has funded the construction of a high-performance rugby facility for the Tonga Rugby Union (TRU).

TRU has begun the construction of its first-ever high-performance training facility, marked by a ground-breaking ceremony at Fasi, Nuku’alofa.

H.E. Mr. Inagaki Hisao, the Ambassador of Japan to Tonga, signed the agreement with TRU CEO Mr. Aisea Aholelei last month.

The project, funded by the Japanese Government under the Grass-Roots Human Security Projects, is estimated at approximately $143,400 USD.

This facility will provide the necessary resources and environment for TRU to train and prepare players at a high-performance level.

Ambassador Hisao, along with two of his diplomatic staff, also visited the Tonga Rugby Union office. During the visit, they met with TRU staff and presented donations of rugby equipment, including hit shields, rugby balls, cones, and more, to support the development of the rugby academy.
