Suva, Fiji – Sulueti Lotu’s artwork has been captivating passerby as she lay out her stunning handmade jewelry and crafts at her stall during the one-week Fiji Women’s Expo at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

The 74 year old of Nanukuloa, Ra, is transforming ordinary waste packaging from her home into extraordinary pieces of jewellery.

While others may see discarded plastic and trash, Sulueti sees endless creative potential. Everywhere she looks, she finds inspiration, envisioning how everyday garbage can be turned into something beautiful.

She began redesigning discarded materials, she crafts unique earrings, necklaces, and purses that not only reflect eco-conscious artistry but also shine a light on the beauty found in the most unexpected places.

“All my art is made from waste papers, recycled waste from the kitchen, like packets of milk and packets of mosquito coil, I cut in a pattern and then roll it and then vanish it to make it shine,” said Sulueti.

She said that along with selling her creations, she also wears the jewellery herself.

“I used to weave mats, but there were so many weavers, so I looked for an alternative, and my creativity led me to this path, I’m very proud and very happy to do this.”

Acknowledging the support of her family, she advised women to never lose hope in life.
